Good news, bad news, indecision: bulleted

Thoughts of the moment presented in bullet points, because sometimes I like to do it that way:

  • Good News – The “dark side” of using physical exercise as a component of a Weight Loss Project (WLP) is the extent to which it makes one ravenously hungry. At least, that’s the effect it has on me. Yesterday’s bowflex workout increased my appetite to the extent that I had to, simply had to eat much more than I should have! I knew it was wrong while I was doing it, but I was unable to stop myself. There was a sense of dread on me regarding what the bathroom scales were going to tell me, regarding how much weight increase I was inevitably going to suffer. The “Good News” came this morning when I stepped on those scales: I’d only gained one pound. Huzzah!
  • Bad News – A large swath of GoDaddy.com was offline last night for several hours. This outage occurred without warning and took my domain with it. Even now there’s been no public acknowledgement from GoDaddy that this even happened. If I was running a business rather than a little, personal website, I’d be seriously honked off about this. As it is, I’ve taken steps to diminish the importance of my GoDaddy hosted blog, web pages, etc., as they relate to my overall Internet presence.
  • Indecision – I still haven’t decided which basketball game I want to follow tonight: the Spurs/Mavs game, or the UTSA Roadrunners vs. the East Central Tigers. Seriously, I still haven’t decided. There may be a coin flip here in my living room tonight to determine which of the two I’ll listen to. No, I won’t listen to both at the same time, nor is it likely that I’ll switch back and forth between the two. It’s not in my nature to do either of those things. But… I have been know to flip a coin on occasion. Tonight might find me doing that again.

update: – Re: the confusion about which basketball game to watch has been solved! The Roadrunners tipoff at 19:00 hours and the Spurs game is an hour and a half later at 20:30. So I’ll be able to Start the evening with the UTSA game, and switch over to the Spurs/Mavs when that game’s over. Excellent!

The WLP, now on its own page

Rather than continuing to crop an image from a screen capture on a weekly basis to share the current state of my Weight Loss Project in a blog post with y’all, I’ve taken advantage of a new service the good folks at WeightChart.com are providing and have built a static web page which links directly to my daily updated chart on their site.

Links to that new page, My WLP: charted, are now found in the sidebars of my two primary blogs (Roscoe’s Dreams, and Roscoe’s Public Notes), and on the two Personal Internet Portals I’m using (my Home/About Page, and Google Profile).

As part of the process of setting the page up, I viewed in through four different browsers on two different Operating Systems: Firefox and Epiphany on Xubuntu, and Chrome and Internet Explorer on Windows XP. The page loads cleanly and is easy to view. One thing I noticed, however, on all browsers was that the very first time the page is loaded, it takes a few seconds for the big chart in the middle of the page to appear. At first there’s just a big empty box, but soon the chart is pulled from WeightChart.com and is displayed just fine. So… I’ll most likely not be putting up anymore weekly reports re: the WLP, but all the information is being regularly updated and can be seen by anybody any time at My WLP: charted.

The WLP: updated, charted, reported

This morning’s entry at WeightChart.com shows me back down into the 220s after a very rough week that had me several days up into the 230s.

The early days of this past week had everything in it that can go wrong with a Weight Loss Project (WLP): massive insomnia, foolish overeating, and practically no physical exercise. The result was predictable and the chart above verifies it. Thankfully, the insomnia broke late in the week. (I seem able to lose weight only when I’m sleeping well.) This has also given me the energy to start working out again, and to move through my chores while NOT constantly eating. If this trend continues, November should be a good month for the WLP.

Today’s entry at WeightChart.com shows me back down into the 220s after a harrowing couple of days up in the 230s.

If I can hold to the discipline of eating moderate amounts of the right foods, unlike this past week when I pigged out majorly on the wrong stuff, I’ll be okay.

A hanging shirt

hanging_shirt

No, this isn’t a shirt I wear to hangings, but one that was almost too snug to wear when I began my current WLP last July, a shirt that’s now hanging loosely on me, a shirt that’s almost too big to wear. This webcam photo is from last Sunday afternoon, by the way.

Actually I have a lot of “hanging” shirts right now. And that’s a good thing. It means it’s almost time to put them away and bring out from storage those smaller sized shirts. Almost time.

Even though the weight loss itself may be slowing down, the body slimming continues at a pretty good pace. This is probably an effect of my present weight training program. It means that the bulkier, lighter fat mass is slowly being burned away while the leaner, heavier muscle mass is increasing. This is a good thing.
