men at work - picniked - pt. 2

These three guys are working on what will be a major improvement in my neighborhood. This footbridge will directly connect a heavily traveled section of the Riverwalk with the newly expanded Main Plaza.

As things stand now, the only access to Main Plaza is from street level. And, like most of the downtown city parks, this has become a place too heavily frequented by bums the homeless. When this footbridge is completed and it becomes easier for tourists from the big hotels to get to Main Plaza, the overall demographic of folks walking around or sitting on benches in my neighborhood should become much more civilized.

The picture above has been cropped from a rather heavily tweaked first edit of the original image captured by my cameraphone Monday morning.

That big blue tree…

…in Main Plaza caught my eye again (it’s kind of hard to miss) as I was walking through the neighborhood on my way to do some banking this afternoon.

This’ll probably be a favorite photo subject of mine over the next few weeks.

Bright and shiny and me! Heh.

Sunday tree - picniked

I usually snap a few close-up shots of different Christmas decorations each season. This is one of my little tree yesterday evening.

It wasn’t until I was editing this photo online (adjusting the brightness and contrast, “sharpening” it a bit) to make it more presentable that I noticed my own reflection in the glossy golden ornament. My reflection can also be seen in the large red one, though you made need to view it at a larger size to see that one more clearly.

Construction in my neighborhood

the new hotel - picniked

Walking back home from doing a little banking a few minutes ago, I passed by one of the several construction projects in my neighborhood and realized it’s been awhile since I shared a shot of this with you. So, whipping out the cameraphone, I snapped this photo of the new hotel going up at the corner of Soledad and Houston Streets.

What if they threw a DILO…

…and no one came to play? DILO, of course, is an acronym for “a Day In the Life Of.” And that refers to the free photo-sharing project sponsored (usually) four times per year by the flickr group which exists solely for that purpose.

In years past, these DILO projects have drawn a global participatory audience of thousands. I’ve been a part of most of these events and have enjoyed them tremendously. But this year, for some strange reason, there scarcely seems to be a handful of us expressing any pre-DILO interest.

Will I do a DILO this time around? It starts for those of us in my time zone in about six hours, and I still haven’t decided. My inclination is to go ahead and do one. Over the past few days I’ve come up with some ideas for photos I’ve never taken before that I’d like to include in my personal DILO photoset. But, doing so in the context of a much smaller community of photographers does take some of the excitement out of it, I must admit.
