Just thought I’d share this with y’all, ’cause it seems so right. And ’cause I like Rob Zombie.

Rob Zombie in Texas: a video clip

Sometimes I have to chuckle…
…at myself. Just noticed that while I’m searching for the Brahms First CD, I happen to be wearing a Mad Marge and the Stonecutters tee-shirt picked up at a show I attended when that Rockabilly band played here a few years ago.
Only 10 days away
The first concert of the San Antonio Symphony’s Classical series is only ten days away and I’m already getting psyched. This Brahms First concert is described at the Symphony’s website as:
This opening concert of the Ovation Series showcases one of the greatest young cellists of our time—Alisa Weilerstein. The New York Times said Weilerstein’s playing displays “an ecstasy and a generosity that lift performance into a realm of pure happiness.”
Brahms worked for 20 years on his First Symphony — the shadow cast by Beethoven’s symphonic masterpieces intimidated him. Many have remarked about the “strong family relationship” of Brahms’s main theme in the finale and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony finale and some have called the work “Beethoven’s Tenth.” Regardless of its relationship with Beethoven, this symphony is revered as one of the great masterpieces of the genre and part of a series opener not to be missed!
The night’s program also includes works by Dvorjak and Shostakovitch, but the Brahms 1st Symphony is spotlighted. I think I’ve got it on CD. I’ll need to look through my library to see if I can find it. It’s as important for the audience to study and prepare as it is for the performers to practice, you know.

This evening at the opera was…
…simply fantastic. Honestly, if I’d thought there was room in my budget right now I’d have purchased tickets for the remainder of the season tonight.
There was comfort, though, in realizing I have a full subscription to the 2009-2010 classics series of the SA Symphony. And next season I’m determined to have full subscriptions to the both the Symphony and the San Antonio Opera. Yes, indeed!
Even though I didn’t buy any more tickets tonight, I did make a one-time donation that was significant enough to pick up some swag that a certain granddaughter of mine will probably like.
