Limited Internet access – again
by roscoe
Once again (this seems to happen once or twice per year) I have lost Internet connectivity at home via my primary ISP. And once again I’m not sure whether or not to hate my ISP or the very old DSL modem I use. So i guess I’ll just harbor a smoldering resentment toward both the company I pay and the hardware I have until the situation is resolved, one way or another.
For now my Internet access will be limited to what I can do with my smartphone, and to those times when I venture out with my notebook in search of a hotspot.
Grumble, grumble, grumble…
update: Okay, grumbling no longer. The new DSL modem – Wireless router is setup and running. Connectivity is solid. This is something I should probably have done years ago.

I had extremely poor internet reception last night (Tuesday night). I’ve been hearing about a lot of solar activity lately, bringing the aurora borealis as far south as New York City. I use a wireless splitter at home and use mostly my laptop. I understand solar flares and solar wind messes with wireless signals from time-to-time. It was aggravating. I was looking forward to an excellent guest on Coast-to-Coast, and had to tune in to the archive today.
At this point in time I’ve got the little computer connected to the DSL modem/router via ethernet cable, but the Sirius Internet radio and the Roku Box are now using the wireless connection and they’re working fine. I’ll probably start using wireless for the computer tomorrow. The old modem and dedicated router are disconnected and set aside, many ethernet cables are disconnected and set aside, the work space is tidier and more comfortable. Happiness.
